Paragon Studios Raises the bar with the
First SSL C300 Install in the U.S.

"SSL has the Best Product out there"

Franklin, TN—Paragon Studios, a leading multi-room recording and post-production facility, will install North America’s first Solid State Logic C300 Master Studio System.

The new console will be housed in Paragon’s Studio B, a post-production studio providing services including surround mixing and mix-to-picture to a growing client base.

The C300, to be installed in May, represents a dramatic upgrade for Paragon’s Studio B, and will complement Paragon’s existing 80 frame SSL XL 9000 K Series console, located in Studio A since 2001.

Upgrading the digital audio workstation-based Studio B was a necessity, says Paragon Studios owner and President Fred Paragano. “In the course of operating the studio, we needed a studio system that could handle the diverse and growing needs of our clients,” he comments. “Our goals in expanding our successful post-production business required the type of facilities offered by the C300 system.

“We’ve been talking with SSL for quite awhile about a console that would meet our needs,” Paragano adds. “I went over to England, was very impressed with what I saw, and made the decision.”

The C300’s sonic excellence was of primary importance, Paragano explains. “The first time I sat down at it, I had the same reaction that I had with the K Series,” he recalls. “There’s just a huge difference between the sound of something of this calibre and a plug-in.”

Layout and ease of use, he adds, were also significant factors in his decision to install the C300. “You can figure it out very easily,” Paragano notes. “Functionality and expandability are important too—this is a system that will grow with me.”

Paragano also cites a history of exceptional customer support in his decision to add a second SSL console to Paragon Studios. “I’ve dealt with SSL in the past,” he says. “The way they treat their clients and the relationships I’ve built with SSL were huge factors in my decision.”

“Fred Paragano continues his commitment to providing his music and post-production customers with leading-edge service and equipment,” comments Don Wershba, senior vice president, Solid State Logic. “We are especially pleased that he has chosen SSL’s C300 for Paragon Studios as a result of his extensive evaluation process.”

The 56-frame C300 to be installed in Studio B is loaded with 40 faders and 128 inputs. Its comprehensive feature set provides all of the automation and control benefits associated with SSL’s latest Centuri digital processing, including a compact work surface that controls a combination of the console’s DSP and a DAW’s internal parameters; powerful monitoring options allowing multi-format work to be heard on several different sets of speakers; a synchronizer for four serial machine control ports; and SSL’s unique TimeFreeze™ automation system.

The C300 provides direct control of all workstations found in the post-production process, adding the high-end benefits of an ergonomic control surface with excellent visual feedback, as well as full monitoring and machine control. High-resolution TFTs display routing and processing. Up to four workstations can be controlled simultaneously via the console.

“The deciding factor was the console,” Paragano summarizes. “I think SSL has the best product out there.”
