Digital Broadcast Console

The C100 is a robust digital broadcast console designed for on-air and live to-tape production applications. Both the console operation and underlying technology have been designed for freelance-friendly, reliable operation.

With support for up to 128 input channels, the C100 provides simultaneous 5.1, stereo and mono signal paths directly from source through to destination. The console features 80 mix busses for the numerous talent, communication and production area mixes that have become a standard requirement in programme creation.

The console benefits from proprietary software with full diagnostic support and redundant, hot-swap hardware, along with the inherent fault-tolerant stability of SSL’s purpose-built designs.

Features

  • Scalable DSP for up to 128 processing channels
  • Two 5.1 programme outputs with permanent stereo and mono fold-down outputs
  • 16 subgroup busses with stereo and 5.1 format options
  • 24 auxiliary busses with odd/even stereo bus linking
  • 24 utility busses for clean feeds, IFBs and parallel live recording
  • Independent direct and channel utility outputs provide simultaneous ‘N-1’ and direct recording feeds
  • Independent stereo PFL and AFL monitoring
  • Four 12-way source selectors in stereo/5.1
  • Scalable control surface for up to 48 Fader Strips
  • Flexible channel layouts and Control Linking™ allow easy creation of frequently used console setups
  • Audio-follow-video control interface
  • Central touchscreen provides metering of all 80 console outputs plus fast access to output parameters
  • Offline session preparation from remote location

Key Console Features

Advanced Broadcast Architecture
The C100’s flexible architecture allows channels to route directly to the programme outputs, and audio subgroups, as required. There are two dedicated 5.1 programme outputs with derived stereo and mono feeds. In addition, the eight stereo audio subgroups (ASGs) can be configured as two stereo and two 5.1 ASGs. The ASG direct outputs provide simultaneous mono (and stereo) downmixes.

Fader Strips
Each channel bay on the console has 8 Fader Strips that provide permanent control of a signal path. Each Fader Strip consists of a dedicated fader cassette, 8 character name label, AFL, PFL and ON buttons, panpot and four definable ‘free’ controls.

Mono, Stereo and 5.1 channels
The C100 provides free designation of channels as mono, stereo or 5.1 on any Fader Strip —this formatting takes place automatically when sources are chosen. Any of these signal paths may also be used as an audio bus master, fed from a mix bus for overall signal processing. Channels may be set out in layers with signals appearing on any layer, and a channel may be fixed so that it appears in all layers, for permanent availability.

Channel Layout Manipulation
If sources on Fader Strips need to be moved across the control surface to provide a more convenient layout, dedicated move and exchange functions provide a fast and simple way to achieve this, along with all the Fader Strips’ settings.

Master Channel
The ‘Master Channel’ provides dedicated control of all routing and processing parameters through 27 alphanumeric displays, 34 bus displays, 37 knobs, and 86 switches; this knob-per-function access enables both fast operation and user confidence. A Master Channel may be fitted in each channel bay of the console, providing multioperator capability, and hardware redundancy in case any panel is damaged.

Free Controls
Each channel has two definable buttons and two definable knobs with associated switches, each with a 4 character display. These controls may be used as clones of any of the functions on the Master Channel, allowing the operator to keep often-altered settings at hand.

Dedicated N-1/Direct and Utility Output
These outputs are provided for each channel, with the option to include or remove each channel’s contribution to the N-1 (Mix Minus) bus, and a choice of source (input, pre-fade, post-fade or external) for the utility output.

Fader Cassettes
This unique design provides the information and feedback essential to broadcast operations. Hot-swappable and incorporating a signal level display, the fader also provides backstop PFL, grouping indication, status of audio, and access protection, and GPI functions.

Broadcast Monitoring
The C100 boasts a comprehensive monitoring system including:

• Stereo PFL and AFL
• Dedicated PFL output and external PFL input
• 5.1 insert point with stereo/mono fold-downs.
• Monitor source selectors are available for both Main and Mini outputs, with individual monitor cuts/solos.

Audio Follow Video (AFV)
Channel faders and ON buttons may be tied to external control through the C100’s GPI interface, allowing, for example, remote control of the console from a video switcher.

Central Touchscreen
The touchscreen provides full display of all busses, together with direct access to console-wide and individual bus setup functions, and interrogation of levels, settings and assignments.
